U.S. Plastics Manufacturers Set Circular Economy Target

The Plastics Division of the American Chemistry Council (ACC) has announced three ambitious goals, that is, the American plastic resin manufacturer promised to recycle all plastic packaging used in the United States by 2040, and further improve the management of plastic granules until 2022.

Specifically, members of the ACC plastics division set the following goals for capturing recycled plastics:

100% of plastic packaging was reused before 2040, and by 2030, 100% of recycled plastic packaging was recycled. 100% of U.S. manufacturing sites operated by ACC plastics members will participate in Clean Clean Sweep-Blue by 2020, and all of their manufacturing facilities will participate in North America by 2022.

“We are moving in the direction of a recycling economy for plastics because it helps demonstrate our full commitment to sustainable materials management,” said Steve Russell, vice president of ACC Plastics. “When we set these goals, our industry is openly affirmed. We are looking forward to the future of safety and health plastic packaging, and stated that we intend to achieve this goal as soon as possible.”

“With our value chain partners, we intend to move to an increasingly circulatory system for designing, manufacturing and recycling plastic packaging resources,” said Russell.

To achieve these goals, the plastic resin producer plans to focus on six key areas: designing new products to improve efficiency, recycling and reuse; developing new technologies and systems for collecting, classifying, and recycling materials to make more consumers Easier to participate in recovery and recovery programs; expand the types of plastics that are collected and reused, align products with the main end markets, and realize that used plastics are a valuable resource for the next use.

Rick Wagner, global sustainability manager for Chevron Phillips Chemical Co., Ltd., said: “Our industry has a long history of leadership management initiatives. We must have responsibility and care. We will use research, technology, infrastructure and education in all aspects. Support for recycling. Today's announcement marks a critical step."

Wagner said: “Plastic resin manufacturers are accelerating their commitment by establishing new alliances and creating new business models that will help optimize a range of environmental, economic, and social outcomes. Some of them involve plastics that will be used. Swivels into its basic structure so that we can make new plastic."
